Inspiring the younger generation into
Tabi is co-owner of Papilio at Heritage, a lifestyle and coffee shop in Thornbury (just north of Bristol). She has taken it from a failing business, to a business with much younger average customer base and a business that is known for being accessible and welcoming to all, no matter their age. Papilio won a Great's Award in 2019 for being the best Non-specialist retailer of Gifts, it was also a finalist in 2020 for the Retail Initiative Award for this Junior Retailer Scheme.. Tabi is also a proud judge in the Gift of the Year Awards (run by the Giftware Association).
Outside of her shop life Tabi has been involved with Children's and Youth work for 20 years, during which time she has learnt how to communicate different concepts effectively. Her favourite age group to work with is 7-11 year olds. Having worked with over 500 kids at a time, the 100+ seen at the shop for its free Summer Fun events really doesn't faze her!
The Junior Retailer scheme is an introduction to retail for young children (ages 7+). Consisting of four sessions, each 1 hour long, it covers topics such as marketing, customer service, finance and the stock journey.
Designed for retailers in a way that should be easy to use with activity ideas, tips and worksheets.
First run by Tabi at Papilio at Heritage in 2019 with 8 children it proved popular and successful with interest from other retailers. We're hoping that by offering the programme wider we can help inspire children to look at Retail and Entrepreneurship as a good career option, helping to ensure the High Street survives and thrives in the future.
